This whole concoction cost ~$5.50 + tax and you get an amount of ice cream approximately equal to two scoops at a scoop shop, so not a bad price for a cool experience and free toppings. The ratio of banana to Nutella was spot on. I don't think I've ever done a banana/Nutella combo, but I might have to start because they complement each other so well. The banana was mashed enough that there weren't distinct banana chunks, but the ice cream had a very vibrant banana flavor. Freezing the ice cream on the spot allows for the freshest taste of the fruit mix-ins which is super important for fruit like banana which doesn't always translate well to ice cream. The real standout, and the star of the show are the mix-ins. The vanilla base wasn't anything special, but it didn't have the overly alcoholic tang of vanilla extract, so it didn't take away from the experience. This image gives a good idea of the texture. Even thought it was hard, it was definitely didn't have an icy or unpleasant texture, and the hardness allowed the rolls to hold their shape. If normal ice cream was this hard it would be very hard to scoop, but because it was in such thin sheets it was easy to get even a plastic spoon through. ![]() Since it freezes in a thin sheet, it freezes much harder than typical ice cream. This ice cream has a really interesting texture. It's pretty gimmicky, and if the product wasn't very good that's all it would have, but I really like the ice cream, I thought the gimmick added to the overall experience. Coolest thing ever.Īfter one time trying Thai rolled ice cream I'm hooked. A few things to note are the fresh banana and the fact that she spelled out Big Muddy in Nutella. ![]() Here's a few pictures of the process (I did get the employee's permission to take pictures and post them!). Since I had already had a ton of ice cream I went easy on the toppings and just got whipped cream. There were about 10 flavors to choose from with a good mix of chocolate and fruit flavors.ģ) Pick your toppings FOR FREE. You order in three steps:ġ) Pick your base flavor. Roll With It Creamery occupies one corner of Good Thyme, a hip, modern eatery that I imagine is super popular with BYU students. I've had multiple people tell me (somewhat jokingly and somewhat not) that they eat lots of sugar in Provo instead of drinking alcohol, and I say THANK GOODNESS FOR THAT! I thought I'd have to travel to California or New York or wait months for the trend to percolate to the rest of the country. I've wanted to try Thai rolled ice cream ever since it became a ~thing~ on Instagram, and never in my life did I think I'd get to try it in Utah. ![]()

However, instead of three 14-kilometre laps with the double ascent of the VAMberg, the peloton now had to climb the landscaped waste dump six times. The last-minute course adjustments cut almost 60 km from the race, including all the planned cobblestone sectors. In my opinion, it was a safe race,” the winner thanked the organisers for making the race possible. They did everything to get the VAMberg circuit ready and did that well. There was some water on the roads, but not so much as to make it dangerous. “It was fine, especially that the race could be held at all, the organisation did everything to make it happen. Overnight snowfall forced the race organisers to change the course at the last minute, shortening the race to 94 kilometres without the notorious cobblestone sections on the ‘Drentse keien’, instead consisting of six laps around the VAMberg before the run-in to the finish. It’s extra nice to win it for the third time,” Wiebes said. “I like that it’s a race in the Netherlands, and normally I also really like the cobbles, but this time, I finally liked the VAMberg. So much of that synthpop sound depends on simple arpeggiators. Yeah don't bother learning piano, you can just play chords with your right hand and modulate/bend with your left. As per my other post to fellow commenter - I find I can "play" piano/synth just from my guitar experience enough to have fun and run some chord progressions etc and fear that first "two years" worth of classical piano would not substantially advance me in the direction I want to move. I've developed intuitive understanding of ADSR and other basic concepts like modulating LFO with it way better and faster than I imagine I would with a book - so if I outgrow it one day, it'll still have been a wortwhile purchase:).Īlso played a bit with an old old USB Midi keyboard I had and Caustic software, and have access to Casio CTK-6250 regular electronic keyboard as needed.īasically, I've discovered a fertile new ground and am looking to deep dive :).īut as I said - there's tons of reviews and suggestions on equipment out there a fair amount of courses (good or bad) on how to create sound but far less on how to learn to play synth in any kind of accelerated, non-traditional/classical way. compared to UltraNovas and such, it has no menu diving - I have all these wonderful sliders and knobs to learn with and really understand what's going on. To start with I bought a Roland Gaia I know it doesn't get a lot of love, BUT. I've been geeking out for a few weeks, love the deep warbles and hard tones of the bass monophonic analogues, piercing leads of some others, and the rich pads of some of the digital polyphonics. Historically on the electronic side I've enjoyed Depeche Mode, some Daft Punk, and a mix & variety of other stuff but I've just found synthwave, such as Kavinsky, and am somewhat in love:). But I've just discovered synthesizers, got increasingly hyper excited, and it seems I can really really nerd out about them. My first love is guitar, and I've been playing it (badly ) for decades. If I went back to some piano now I expect I would improve dramatically from where I was in short order. My sense of rhythm if I sit down at a keyboard/piano is way better now than when I was playing piano every day and taking classical style lessons. The ridiculous thing is I haven't taken a piano lesson since 2015, I've been taking guitar. The only reason I mention this is a lot of synth music is pop music that has a lot more in common with guitar centric music. ![]() ![]() Way more emphasis on using your ears, developing rhythm, playing with others, etc. I have never taken classical guitar but in contrast to piano your typical guitar lessons are near 100% the other way around. The weakness on understanding leads to a difficulty in memorization AFAICTĪll this stuff gets ironed out in piano lessons I'm sure but it seems to happen at a pretty late stage that isn't great for an adult beginner. Weakness on learning to play with others Weakness on developing a sense of rhythm and playing by ear Huge emphasis on reading music and playing it back even if you're not understanding it Piano is super super super biased towards classical music Nothing beats a teacher but there are some problematic things with piano teachers IME. I do think you need the music theory though, such as awareness of chords and functional harmony.Ĭonsider learning some of the classic synth basslines - they tend to have tutorials on youtube - like Material Girl or Tarzan Boy. (Of course the DX7 was played very much as a piano at times) I mean, to play the melancholy chords of "Drive" by the Cars, you need some of the skills of a pianist, but not rhythmic ones. When polysynths got common in the mid 80s, pianistic fingering of chords (but not necessarily rhythms) was used. So pianistic skills would be wasted in this context. A lot of piano technique is getting both hands working together to play rhythm and melody - but generally synths are doing one thing at a time, and cooperating with other instruments.Ī lot of classic synth lines are monophonic, aka "one-finger" lines, although to play them fluidly with one finger would be pretty hard. Definitely learn the rudiments of piano playing, up to playing block chords (triads) with either hand.īeyond that, I think they diverge too much. ![]() ![]() Tomas the Jovial Acid Dealer has to be an anomaly, right?
